Umega Lettings has taken over as the lettings and property management service provider for Edinburgh Council’s mid-market rent portfolio, Edinburgh Living.

 

What is Edinburgh Living?

The Edinburgh Living portfolio is made up of hundreds of high quality, newly built properties situated in 9 different developments across the city including Pennywell, Craigmillar Town Centre and Clermiston. There are more new properties under construction with tranches of new homes to be made available at various times over the next few years with Edinburgh Living aiming to reach 1,100 homes around the city within the next 7 years. The timing of this initiative could not be better as prospective tenants all over the city struggle to find homes in the undersupplied and extremely competitive and increasingly expensive private rented sector.

 

Mid-Market Rent

The Edinburgh Living mid-market rent properties are homes for rent to households on low to middle incomes where rent is set lower than “full market” private rent, but higher than council or housing association rent. These homes offer the safety and security of a long-term let, at a fair rent, in a choice of areas throughout Edinburgh. They are fantastic value and will provide much needed affordable homes to thousands of low to middle income households over the coming years. This is a fantastic and much needed project from Edinburgh Council in collaboration with the Scottish Futures Trust and demonstrates a long-term commitment to helping alleviate the long-term chronic undersupply of quality rental stock in Edinburgh’s private rented sector.

 

Umega and Edinburgh Living working together 

After a lengthy and thorough tendering process that started last year, Umega Lettings took over service provision on the Edinburgh Living portfolio on the 1st of June 2023. We jumped at the chance to apply as we were attracted by Edinburgh Living’s vision, ambition and their focus on tackling the housing challenges in Edinburgh by providing good quality, great value homes with a high level of customer service. This aligns perfectly with Umega’s aims and approach to providing excellent service and treating tenants fairly.

 

More new properties coming soon 

There are more newly built properties due to become available for rent over the summer. These are a mix of town houses, 1, 2 & 3 bedroom flats in Dumbryden and Pennywell. If you are an individual earning at least £18,000 a year or part of a household that earns up to around £50,000 a year then you could be eligible for a tenancy in an Edinburgh Living property.
